Fiddlehead is owned and operated by Eric Root and Rob Rose, a physician and a forester by profession (you'll have to guess who is whom). We love being outdoors and creating great outdoor experiences for others. At Fiddlehead, we strive to provide you a camping or hunting get-away where you can truly relax and enjoy this wonderful place.
Sites
Fiddlehead Campground began in 1999 and now has 200+ canoe-in or drive-in primitive sites on and between 11 beaches along 3 miles of the Saco River in western Maine. "Primitive" means you get a large site with a picnic table and a nearby privy, to go with the great scenery and that "away from it all" feeling. You carry in your water and other supplies. The Nature Conservancy has been providing an armload of free firewood to discourage trampling of some rare plant species on the property. We expect campers to keep their camping areas neat; we will take away garbage that is neatly wrapped in garbage bags and placed away from the river so as to not detract from the view. We have expanded our drive-in camping as more folks have discovered the convenience of driving in to camp, taking a river trip the next day, then camping with us again that night. Our week-end clients tend toward the younger, party-on-the-beach crowd. From Sunday to Thursday, the Saco River is much quieter - an ideal time for family camping. Regardless of your camping goals, we want to preserve the untrammeled look and feel of Fiddlehead, so you will want to return again and again. |
